When testing a new software system, run the tutorial or training function to see if it's adequate and answers all of your questions. You may have to call the support desk for answers to complex questions about programming such as setting the buy-sell criteria and using the system in general. If a "Help" link is offered, determine ease of navigation and usefulness. Some of your questions may not be answered through information in the help section, and knowledgeable support from the system provider may be required.
Finding a strategy or system that works is not the hard bit, there are plenty of systems and methods on these very boards. The difficulty is configuring them to be consistent and to continually adapt them to keep up with the market. The other trick is not getting misled by short term results or backtests. Any truly successful strategy should be able to work through bull, bear and sideways markets. Sure they might not always make money but they should be minimising losses or going flat not completely falling apart, the latter being a sure sign of over fitting.
There are four different versions of TurboTax software as of 2014; only two support the reporting of gains and losses from investments: Premier and Home & Business. With the free online version, you can only file a basic 1040EZ return; the Deluxe version does not handle gains and losses from investments or forex trading. All TurboTax versions are available via the company's website for download; your broker may allow you to import your trade data directly into the program once you have it installed on your computer.
In most cases, this software is useful for Forex traders when their trading platform does not provide sufficient charting capabilities, analytical tools or other features a trader might find useful. There are many Forex brokers out there that can supply you with a platform, but often they will have very limited functionality - where you can just open the orders, modify them and preview the pricing. This is where charting software comes handy, as it allows the traders to use more advanced software for their analysis.
If you explain and edit your post as to why trading view is not ideal for you then you would get better answers here. Most traders would find tradingview very ideal to trade on as it provides standard functionalities such as stoploss, t/p, buy and sell orders.. The specific functions you mentioned in your earlier reply I'm sure exist but aren't really widely used by a lot of traders and are definitely not available in all trading platforms. List the functions you are seeking to manage trades (in your original post) so someone can help you.
Failure of the mechanics of the system – Automated trading is a very sophisticated way of trading but it is by no means without fault. What happens if the internet connection is lost? What happens when a trade order gets stuck on a computer, before it gets to the server? And theory doesn’t always match up to fact either. In order not to find yourself caught out, as there is a learning curve, it is best to start small and give the process time to be refined.
Interactive Brokers offers a similar breadth of currency pairs as Thinkorswim, with more than 100 to choose from. IB’s Scale Trader is a fully-automated trading algorithm used for enhancing performance in scale trading on the IB platform. While it can be easily used for forex trades, it is also applicable to stocks, futures and more. This is also true of IB’s accumulate/distribute algorithm. The company offers a handful of different customizable automated trading systems to support the particular type of trades you are making.
Worthy of strong consideration are StockCharts.com, who also come with a solid recommendation. Worth commending are the sharp charts, which are visually very impressive, and its array of exotic indicators may excite the more advanced investor. One thing to mention this service offers excellent Point and Figure Charts, which to my knowledge no other free service offers.
One of my friends has developed an EA which is able to plot support/resistance lines on the charts. It doesn’t take any positions at all. So it is not an auto-trading robot. It just plots the lines. He wants to share it on LuckScout for free. It is a while that I am checking it to see if it is good enough to be shared on the site, and I have come to this conclusion that it can help novice traders learn technical analysis much easier and better. So I have decided to share it on the site. This is also the example of a good “white hat” robot. So in general I agree with you that some robots can help.
After more than doubling the number of international forex brokers we tested this year to 43, it was clear that the best forex platforms managed to pack a slew of features and tools into a simplified user experience, while keeping the technology up to date with the latest supported standards. All in all, these platforms provide customers a rich and pleasurable experience in all critical areas of forex trading.
Trading can be diversified – With an automated trading system a trader can trade a number of accounts, each with a different strategy, if that is what they want to do. This allows risk to spread over a variety of instruments as well as create a hedge against losing positions. A computer is much more efficient as this form of multitasking than a human, and can execute orders in milliseconds, as well as scour a range of markets for trading opportunities and monitor a number of different trades.
