More sophisticated charting software generally offers some support for traders using Elliot Wave Theory to analyze exchange rate movements that would include calculating Fibonacci retracement and projection levels. Additional advanced forex charting software features might include: more advanced line-drawing options that include channels and Gann lines, computing and displaying Pivot Points, as well as providing a wider range of increasingly-complex technical indicators.
As a forex trader, you have a choice of two very different tax treatments: Section 988 or Section 1256. With the latter, you report gains on Form 6781 and can split your gains: 60 percent at the long-term rate (15 percent as of 2013) and 40 percent at the short-term rate (your own marginal income tax rate) -- no matter how long you held your position. Under Section 988, you report gains and losses as interest income or loss, with any gain added to your ordinary income from other sources. You can opt out of Section 988 and select the Section 1256 treatment, but you must do so before you start currency trading.
The best forex trading software displays colse to real-time exchange rates that change along with the market as it ticks up and down over time. Naturally, the best type of real time exchange rate is one you can deal on. This way, when you go to enter a trade or an order using your forex trading platform software, you do not get surprised about where the market really is trading.
Emotional issues in trading. Automated trading software is totally unemotional. You can set it up to trade the way you would like to trade (as an ice cool trader, presumably) and entrust the job to it. The robot will do exactly as you had planned, without any of the distractions of niggling thoughts, doubts etc entering into the decision. It’s a good option for dealing with the trader demons of fear and greed.
This was one of the first things that struck me when I started using robots. I would be watching the behaviour of the EA during a trade and contrasting the way it managed to trade to the way I would be tempted to manage the trade. The robot usually did a much better job than me 🙂 It’s like having a mentor do your trading for you while you stand behind them observing and learning.
When it comes to Forex robots, there are always going to be traders who consider them a godsend, and those who consider using them is a lazy way to trade. Here at toponlineforexbrokers.com we prefer to sit on the fence. Rather than tell you they are the best thing since sliced bread, or a tool you should steer clear of, we’ll try and give you all the basic information in a unbiased and clear cut way. That way you can weigh it all up and decide for yourself whether Forex auto trading is the way for you.
As the title suggests, I’m looking for recommendations/your opinions on the best charting package to use. I’ve been demo trading on Oanda’s Tradingview ‘Advanced’ charts for the past 6 months, but I find it restrictive when it comes to actual trading. I have been trying out Ninjatrader with a separate demo account and I like it; but I’m not sure if it’s worth the $800 price tag for a lifetime license (and also that only a few brokers support them). Would it be worth me learning MT4? I know it’s the industry standard for retail traders. I don’t care about future proofing necessarily – I just want to starting learning and getting used to a good charting package that I will use when I go live within the next couple of months that won’t have the same limitations as Tradingview. Thanks in advance for any advice!
The trading interface is what the user of the forex trading software interacts with in order to execute forex trades. Such an interface needs to be both ergonomic and generally acceptable for your purposes. Most trading interfaces can be customized, but to what extent generally depends on the software. Adjusting window placement and display colors are common trading interface changes that most platforms permit.
Trading financial instruments, including foreign exchange on margin, carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in financial instruments or foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with trading and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.
For veteran traders: it's a real opportunity to hone your skills, and provide an additional source of profitable trades to diversify your "portfolio" of strategies. It is also an opportunity to join a community of like minded traders who communicate (through chat and live trading rooms) during the trading day, and help each other achieve better results.
A major advantage of automated forex trading software is the elimination of emotional and psychological influences determining your trading decisions in favor of a cold, logical approach to the market. Beginner and even experienced traders may sometimes make a trade based on some psychological trigger that defies the logic of market conditions. With automated trading, such all-too-human lapses of judgment just don't occur.
Forex trading is governed by the National Futures Association, and they routinely check brokerages for financial irregularities, hidden or overly high fees, and scams. A key point of comparison between forex brokerages is their regulatory approval status with the NFA. Because the forex market and its major players move rapidly, it’s wise to regularly check on that status via the NFA’s Status Information Center. Increased regulation (coupled with higher capital requirements) continue to force forex brokers to leave the playing field, and one side effect is that it’s increasingly easy to find the best out of a constrained number of options.
